WITNESS APPEAL: ARMED ROBBERY - BEST WISHES CARD SHOP, PRENTON

Detectives are appealing for witnesses after an armed robbery in Prenton, Wirral on Wednesday evening (November 11th, 2017).

Patrols were called to the ‘Best Wishes’ card shop on Woodchurch Road at 5.30pm after the owner reported being confronted by a man who demanded cash from the till.

The offender pushed the 75-year-old victim out of the way and helped himself to the cash before fleeing on foot in the direction of Cambridge Road.

He is described as white, around 6ft tall, of average build with a moustache or heavy stubble. He was wearing a black or dark hooded sweat shirt and blue jeans and was carrying what the victim described as a small black handgun.

Armed response officers searched the area for him, assisted by dog patrols, but he could not be found. Detectives have now launched an investigation to try and trace him and have been carrying out house to house and CCTV enquiries in the surrounding area.

Detective Inspector Mike Dalton said: “This was a frightening incident for this local shopkeeper who was thankfully not hurt, only shaken, by what the offender did. Only a small amount of cash has been stolen from the till however we will not tolerate this kind of crime against decent, law-abiding members of our community. The offender ran out of the shop in the direction of Cambridge Road during a busy time of the evening when people were coming home from work, collecting their kids from school or at the shops. If you remember seeing anything untoward in this part of Prenton at 5.30pm on Wednesday night then please let us know. Any information you have, however small, might help us catch this man.”

Call the investigation team on 0151 777 2265 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
